Responsible Gambling

Blitzen is a research terminal for bettors who do their own work — not a sportsbook. We want betting to stay analytical and fun, and never become something that harms you or the people around you. If it ever stops being fun, this page is here to help.

Our commitment

Blitzen is an information and analytics service. We are not a sportsbook — we do not accept, hold, or pay out wagers, and nothing here is a guarantee of any outcome. We build tools to help you think more clearly about the bets you choose to make on your own: line-movement charts, odds comparison across roughly 40 sportsbooks, statistical models, backtesting, and closing-line-value (CLV) tracking on bets you log yourself.

That mission only works if betting stays healthy. Sports betting involves a real risk of loss, and we would rather you walk away than chase a result. We are committed to keeping our product honest: we don't sell "winning picks," we don't promise an edge, and we will never nudge you to bet more than you intend to.

Bet with your head

A few principles that keep betting on the right side of fun:

  • Set a budget before you start. Decide on a bankroll you are comfortable losing entirely, and treat it as the cost of entertainment — like a ticket to a game.
  • Only stake what you can afford to lose. Never bet money you need for rent, bills, food, or anything else that matters.
  • Betting is entertainment, not income. Treating it as a way to make money is where trouble usually begins.
  • Chasing losses is the trap. Trying to win back what you lost by betting bigger is the fastest way to lose more. A bad night is just a bad night.
  • The house edge is real. The vig (the bookmaker's margin) is baked into every line. Over the long run it works against you, and no amount of research erases it.
  • Take breaks, and never bet while upset or under the influence. Clear-headed is the only way to make decisions you'll stand behind.

Know the warning signs

Problem gambling can creep up quietly. It's worth pausing and checking in with yourself — or a friend — if you notice any of these:

  • Betting more than you can afford, or more than you planned to.
  • Chasing losses with bigger or more frequent bets to "get even."
  • Borrowing money, selling things, or using funds meant for something else to keep betting.
  • Lying to family or friends about how much you bet or how much you've lost.
  • Betting taking a toll on your work, your relationships, your sleep, or your mood.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back or stop.
  • Needing to bet to feel excitement, or betting to escape stress or low feelings.

If a few of these feel familiar, it doesn't mean anything is wrong with you — it means it might be a good time to slow down and reach out. Help is free, confidential, and judgment-free.

Tools that help

You have more control than it sometimes feels like. Some practical steps:

  • Set deposit, loss, and time limits directly in your sportsbook. Most regulated US books offer these, and they take effect immediately.
  • Take a break. Cooling-off periods let you lock yourself out for a set window — a day, a week, a month — no questions asked.
  • Self-exclude. If you need a longer or permanent break, self-exclusion programs through your sportsbook or your state regulator can block access entirely.
  • Use our CLV tracking honestly. The closing-line-value and backtesting tools in Blitzen exist so you can assess your own decisions clearly — not as a reason to bet more. A good CLV number is a measure of process, not a signal to chase volume.

Get help — you're not alone

If gambling has stopped being fun, please reach out. These US services are free, confidential, and available to anyone — you do not have to be in crisis to call.

  • National Problem Gambling Helpline — 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). Call or text, 24/7, free and confidential. The legacy line 1-800-522-4700 still connects you, too. ncpgambling.org
  • 1-800-GAMBLER. Confidential help, treatment options, and referrals, operated by the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey. 800gambler.org
  • Gamblers Anonymous. Free peer-support meetings, in person and online. gamblersanonymous.org

These are US resources. If you're outside the United States, please seek out the gambling support and helpline services available in your own country or region.

Age requirement

You must be of legal age to bet in your jurisdiction to use Blitzen for betting research — 18 or older, and 21 or older in many US states. Sports betting is not for minors, and neither is this tool. If you are not of legal age where you live, please do not use Blitzen to research or place bets.

A closing note

We built Blitzen because we love the analytical side of sports — the data, the models, the slow grind of trying to understand a market. We want that to stay fun for you, too. If the fun ever fades, step back. The numbers will still be here tomorrow, and so will the help above.

This page is provided for general guidance and isn't medical, legal, or financial advice. We'll update it as our resources and tools evolve. If you or someone you know needs support, please use the helpline numbers above — they're the most important thing on this page.
